Pakistan reaffirms support for SCO’s anti-terrorism efforts

Islamabad (UNA-OIC) � Pakistan is committed to supporting the regional anti-terrorism efforts being made by Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, the Foreign Office said on Wednesday.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS) Meeting in Islamabad, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua shared Pakistan’s experiences in tackling the menace of terrorism. She pointed out that Pakistan has incurred losses worth billions in the war against terrorism, and that it is ready to cooperate with the SCO countries in combating this threat.

In a statement earlier, the Foreign Office said Pakistan supports SCO’s efforts for regional cooperation in fighting terrorism, drug trafficking and organized crimes.

Legal experts from the eight member states including India, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan as well as representatives of the SCO and RATS Executive Committee are participating in the three-day meeting.

The event is being held to discuss terrorist threats facing the region and ways and means to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation between SCO member states.

It is the first time Pakistan is hosting the SCO meeting since it became a member of the Organization in June last year. The SCO is an intergovernmental organization founded on 15 June 2001 in Shanghai, China.
