Pakistan-UK Relations Highlighted by Minister for Planning in London Meeting

London: The bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom are deeply rooted in economic and cultural ties, as highlighted by Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives. Speaking to British Parliamentarians at Portcullis House, Westminster, Mr. Iqbal underscored the significant strides Pakistan has made in various development projects, particularly in Balochistan.

According to a statement by High Commission for Pakistan – United Kingdom, Mr. Iqbal emphasized Pakistan’s pioneering role in the development trajectory of the 1960s. He noted the government’s focus on Balochistan’s development, mentioning completed projects in Gwadar like a hospital, solarized homes, scholarships, a university, and infrastructure improvements. These initiatives are part of broader efforts to uplift local communities.

Mr. Iqbal reported that substantial investments in Balochistan’s mining projects could transform the province’s future. Additionally, he highlighted economic achievements under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, citing reduced inflation and policy rates, growth in the stock market, and increased exports and remittances.

The Minister also addressed the “URAAN PAKISTAN” initiative, a comprehensive plan aimed at benefiting Pakistanis, including the diaspora. The plan includes internships and a “Champions of Reform” program to foster collaboration between British-Pakistani achievers and the government.

Mr. Iqbal affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with strategic partners, including the UK, USA, China, and the European Union. He acknowledged the role of British Pakistanis in enhancing bilateral relations.

Earlier, Mohammad Yasin, a Member of Parliament, welcomed Mr. Iqbal and expressed appreciation for his development efforts in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Iqbal congratulated Mr. Yasin on his appointment as the UK’s Trade Envoy for Pakistan, highlighting the mutual benefits of this role.
