Pakistani flags hoisted in Srinagar on Pakistan Day

Srinagar, March 23, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Pakistani flags were hoisted at many places in Srinagar and other areas to celebrate the Pakistan Day, today. The flags were raised in Lal Chowk and other localities of Srinagar city by the activists of the Kashmiri women organization, Dukhtaran-e-Millat that is headed by Syed Aasiya Andrabi. Special prayers for security, stability and prosperity of Pakistan were held on the occasion.

People from different walks of life thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their continued support to the Kashmir cause. Almost all the Hurriyet leaders in their statements felicitated Pakistan on the day. Hoisting of the Pakistani flags on its national days and during anti-India demonstrations has become a common occurrence in the occupied territory. Hurriyet leaders, today, visited the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to participate in the Pakistan Day celebrations. They were invited by Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit.

On the other hand, the High Court Bar Association in a report released in Srinagar, today, said that the Indian authorities were prolonging the detention of Kashmiri detainees by not producing them before courts on due dates, on one pretext or another. The report was prepared by a six-member team of the bar association after visiting Baramulla district jail. The report disclosed that senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt was not being released despite the fact that he had been granted bail in all the cases registered against him.

The Secretary General of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Shah has termed the arrest of Kashmiri students in India and keeping a close watch over their activities by police as political vendetta. He said that all this was being done at the behest of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh and Hindutva forces to push the career of Kashmiri youth into the darkness.

Meanwhile, people from various areas of Srinagar took to the streets against implementation of the anti-people law, National Food Security Act, in the territory. The protestors blocked the vehicular movement through erecting barricades on the roads in Soura. Similar protests were held in Batwara, Shivpora and Batamaloo localities. The protesters comprising a large number of women formed a human chain to stop the vehicular movement in the areas.

Speakers at a seminar in Luton decided to reach out to all friends of Kashmir and multiply the efforts to highlight the Kashmir dispute in Britain and other European countries. The event was moderated by Professor Zafar Khan and was organised by former Mayor of Luton Borough Council, Wahid Akbar.
