Pakistan’s Government Pledges Strong Action Against Insurrection, Unveils Security Funding

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday called for national unity in the face of challenges to the state’s authority, emphasizing that no insurgent activities or threats would be tolerated.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a spirited discussion in the Senate, Naqvi highlighted recent governmental efforts to reinforce security and stability across the nation. This includes an economic commitment, orchestrated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, involving significant financial allocations to the Counter-Terrorism Department in Balochistan and other provincial divisions, totaling thirteen billion rupees.

The Interior Minister detailed the collaborative measures taken during Sharif’s recent visit to Quetta, where discussions with local stakeholders aimed to address and resolve regional issues. Additionally, Naqvi pointed out that the recent attacks were a deliberate attempt to disrupt the upcoming SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting, signaling a targeted effort against national and international diplomatic engagements in Pakistan.

The session saw the Leader of the Opposition, Shibli Faraz, advocating for increased political dialogue to navigate and mitigate these conflicts, underscoring the necessity of political stability in achieving peace.

The Senate adjourned with plans to reconvene the following Monday, continuing discussions on these critical national security issues.
