Palestinian FM meets Ecuadorian counterpart in Quito

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, who is currently on an official three-day visit to Ecuador, met with his Ecuadorian counterpart Jose Valencia Amores.

During the meeting at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in the capital Quito, al-Maliki and Jose Valencia discussed political developments and ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Palestine and Ecuador.

Jose Valencia welcomed al-Maliki and his delegation and affirmed Ecuador’s position in support of the Palestinian cause, the two-state solution and peaceful coexistence in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations. He also expressed his country’s interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Palestine in various fields.

Al-Maliki thanked Ecuador for their hospitality, as well as for hosting the Conference of Palestinian Ambassadors to Latin America and for their position in support of Palestine in various fields and forums.

The two ministers also discussed political issues, bilateral cooperation and the mechanisms to strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of agriculture, security, health, and tourism among others.

The Palestinian foreign minister handed Jose Valencia a message from President Mahmoud Abbas to his Ecuadorian counterpart, Lenin Moreno.

In his letter, Abbas thanked Moreno for Ecuador’s support to Palestine in international forums and for solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom and independence, and invited him to visit Palestine.

The two ministers signed three agreements and memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of agriculture, sports and youth.

During his trip to Ecuador, al-Maliki will meet with Ecuadorian officials and members of the Palestinian community, in addition to convening a conference for the Palestinian ambassadors to Latin America.
