Participants of Judges Colloquium organized by World Intellectual Property Organization in Singapore stress for fulfilling all the pre-requisites including provision of credible evidences

Islamabad, September 27, 2012 (PPI-OT): Participants of Judges Colloquium organized by World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the assistance of European Union under Trade Related Technical Assistance Program TRTA, II at IPO Singapore has stressed for fulfilling all the pre-requisites including provision of credible evidences relating to infringement of Intellectual property rights cases so that their timely decision could be ensured, says a press release received from Singapore here today.

IP Attorney Mr. Muhammad Majid Bashir deliberated on “The National Legal Framework on the Enforcement of IPR’s. He described legal obligations under TRIPS agreement and quoted various examples of the decisions of honourable Courts relating to famous IPR related cases.

He also presented interesting case studies on IP matters. Judge Lee Seiu Kin, L.T.C. Harms, former Deputy President, Supreme Court of Appeal; South Africa shared various studies on the Elements of Intellectual Property.

The speakers suggested that IP regime has to be strengthened to attract influx of foreign investments. The stressed the need to increase information gathering on infringing activity and enhance enforcement measures.

Ms Louis Director WIPO has given a comparison of different IP related legal practices and guidelines on international conventions on IP Rights. She also discussed consumers attitude on counterfeiting and piracy.

The Judge of Consumer Court Rawalpindi, Mr. Sohail Nasir and Ms. Uzma Chughtai Judge Child Protection Court, Lahore, discussed the role of Consumer Court and available legislations in Pakistan. Director General of IPO-Pakistan Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta said that the presentations depict that Pakistan has potential about legal system for IP issues and there is need for awareness and initiatives from general public and stakeholders. He said in coming years, Pakistan would emerge as one of the most well compliance country with regard to IP issues.
