PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Minister of State for Science and Technology appreciate Pakistan Science Foundation’s Performance

Islamabad, May 22, 2012 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for Science and Technology (S and T) Ms Raheela Baloch appreciated Pakistan Science Foundation’s (PSF) endeavors for promotion and popularization of S and T in the country within limited resources.

Ms Raheela Baloch made these remarks while attending a briefing on PSF mandate, functions, achievements and future plans here during her visit to PSF on Tuesday.

The newly sworn in minister paid a visit to PSF for reviewing performance of the organization. PSF Chairman Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro briefed the minister on PSF’s R and D Industry, Research Support, Inquiry-Based Science Education and Science Popularization programs as well as Natural Sciences Linkage Program under Pak-US Endowment Fund.

PSF Member Science Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Member Finance Mr. Riazul Islam, Chief Scientific Officer Ms Farhat Rajpar and other senior officers were present during the briefing.

The Chairman said that with the active support of Ministry of Science and Technology the PSF has been successful in achieving the target of Economic Cooperation Organization Science Foundation (ECOSF) establishment with its headquarters in Islamabad. Dr. Soomro said the ECOSF will help promote cooperation among the member countries in the field of science and technology.

Dr. Soomro said PSF with the collaboration of French Embassy has arranged International Travelling Expos on Mathematics, Environment and recently International Travelling Expo on Chemistry in all main cities of Pakistan to make students and general public aware of importance of Chemistry and develop their interest in the subject.

He also explained the inquiry-based science education program being run with the collaboration of France Embassy.

The minister took keen interest in PSF’s Science Popularization Program, especially the Science Caravans and establishment of Science Centres in major cities of the country. She made different queries about Faisalabad Science Centre and its working. The minister said she would visit the Centre to get first-hand information about it.
