Islamabad: At a simple and dignified ceremony held today at Sajawal, Sindh, President Pakistan Foreign Office Women’s Association (PFOWA), Mrs. Taranum Salman Bashir handed over possession of 42 houses in Goth Molvi Muhammad Usman Samejo to flood affectees. The construction of these houses was sponsored by PFOWA as part of its social outreach programme.

Also present at the occasion were representatives of Pakistan Navy Women’s Association and Mrs. Amna Tayyab (wife of Vice Admiral Tayyab Ali Dogar Commander Coastal) who worked as Co-Coordinator for this project.

Speaking at the occasion, President PFOWA said that the Foreign Service community was deeply imbued with the desire to contribute to the rehabilitation of flood affectees as its patriotic and national duty. The construction and handover of 42 houses was a major step in this direction.

At previous occasions, PFOWA has contributed to flood relief efforts by donating medicines, clothes and food items for distribution among flood affectees in different parts of the country. The successful completion of the present project is also a milestone in PFOWA-Pakistan Navy collaboration for flood relief activity. In November 2010, PFOWA had handed over two containers (40 ft. each) of relief goods to Pakistan Navy for distribution in interior Sindh.

PFOWA is a registered non-governmental charitable organization bringing together spouses of Pakistan Foreign Service officers and Pakistan’s women diplomats. Besides undertaking charitable endeavours in the areas of education, health and widow welfare for low income Foreign Office employees, PFOWA also provides a cultural interface between the Foreign Office and Islamabad’s diplomatic community.
