President Zardari Advocates for Stronger Measures Against Fake News in Islamabad

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has called for concerted efforts to combat the spread of fake news and disinformation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high journalistic standards and ethical values in the media. His remarks were made during a meeting with the Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), Mr. Muhammad Saleem, who presented the PEMRA Report for 2021-23 at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

According to Press Information Department, the President highlighted the challenges posed by modern communication technologies and stressed the need for the media to play a responsible role in shaping public opinion. He advocated for the adoption of a stringent code of conduct to curb misinformation and propaganda and underscored the importance of enhancing PEMRA’s capabilities through modern tools, technologies, and skilled human resources. The President also expressed his commitment to supporting PEMRA’s efforts to regulate and develop the media landscape, ensuring that it contributes positively to societal tolerance, unity, and the promotion of Pakistan’s soft image globally.
