Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), during the World Government Summit 2025. The meeting centered around Pakistan’s IMF program and recent improvements in economic stability due to governmental reforms.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, discussions emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to structural reforms and fiscal discipline, which are deemed crucial for sustainable growth. The Prime Minister highlighted the progress made under the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility, which has been pivotal in stabilizing the economy and paving the way for long-term recovery.
Ms. Georgieva praised Pakistan’s effective implementation of the IMF-supported program, noting the country’s rising growth and declining inflation. She acknowledged Prime Minister Sharif’s leadership in driving the reform agenda, which has significantly contributed to economic stability.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of continued fiscal discipline, structural reforms, and governance improvements to ensure lasting economic growth. The IMF Managing Director reiterated the Fund’s support for Pakistan’s ongoing reform efforts.
