Punjab Chief Minister presides over high level meeting to review measures for promotion of investment in Punjab

Lahore, February 26, 2016 (PPI-OT): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting which reviewed the performance of Punjab Investment Board and the measures with regard to promotion of local and foreign investment in the province. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister Punjab said that Punjab Investment Board will have to work on modern lines. He said that there are vast opportunities of investment in the province and Punjab Investment Board will have to play an active role for the promotion of local and foreign investment.

He said that promotion of the investment will not only increase production but job opportunities will also be created. The Chief Minister said that medium and small scale businesses are the backbone of economy and there is a need for their promotion. He said that Punjab Investment Board should maintain a close contact with concerned departments of provincial government and federal institutions to provide maximum facilities to the investors.

He said that Punjab Investment Board will have to play an active role in providing better facilities to traders and businessmen. He said that steps will have to be taken on permanent basis on promotion of investment in Punjab. Shahbaz Sharif said that sectors for investment should be identified for the promotion of investment and the incentives should be given to the investors.

He said that the facilities should be provided on priority basis to overseas Pakistanis for investment in Punjab and a close coordination should be established for this purpose. He said that there is also a need for capacity building of Punjab Investment Board. He said that target should be set for promotion of investment and efforts should be made for their achievement. He said that the decisions should be taken with regard to SMEs and promotion of the investment and their immediate implementation should be ensured.

CEO Punjab Investment Board gave a briefing on the role of Punjab Investment Board and measures for increasing the investment. Provincial Ministers Dr. Ayesha Ghous Pasha, Muhammad Shafiq, Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Additional Chief Secretary, President Bank of Punjab, concerned secretaries and senior officials attended the meeting while Chairman Planning and Development participated through video link.
