Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Centralized Control of Jammu and Kashmir, Advocates for Restoration of Statehood

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in India’s Lok Sabha, has voiced significant concerns over the governance of Jammu and Kashmir from New Delhi, calling for the restoration of its statehood and addressing broader systemic issues impacting the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Gandhi’s comments were made during a recent interaction with Kashmiri women, a segment of which was released by his party this Monday. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to governance, particularly in relation to Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “My problem with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is that he does not listen to anyone. I have a problem with someone who from the beginning believes that they are right.”

During his visit, Gandhi engaged with local students in Srinagar, discussing the challenges and expectations of Kashmiri girl students studying various disciplines. He emphasized the importance of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning that it was unprecedented in Indian history for a state to lose this status.

The dialogue also covered issues of women’s safety and dignity, with Gandhi expressing his commitment to ensuring these fundamental rights. “The women of Kashmir have strength, resilience, wisdom, and a lot to say,” Gandhi remarked, highlighting the need for their voices to be heard and respected.

This engagement underscores a pivotal moment for Gandhi and his party as they address key issues ahead of the upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to ensure real representation and the restoration of statehood.
