Karachi, August 03 2013 (PPI-OT): The unprecedented heavy rainfall in the metropolis this morning resulted in accumulation of rain water in most parts of the city thus affecting the normal life activities. However in DHA, by and large the situation was quite normal. All the major Khayabans and roads in DHA remained clear as the rain water quickly drained out through the newly constructed storm water drainage system which proved its efficacy.
However rain water got accumulated at few places in DHA which was drained out through a speedy and concerted dewatering operation.
DHA teams quickly moved in the area and identified the few affected places which were inundated by rain water. These areas included some portions of Kh-e-Bahria, Kh-e-Shabaz, Popular Avenue, Badar Commercial and Commercial Streets 7, 8 and 9 of DHA Ph-IV.
DHA immediately moved dewatering equipment to the affected areas which included suction pumps, mobile hydrants, sludge water tankers, cesspool vehicles and tractors etc to ensure speedy drainage of the accumulated water. DHA and CBC staff has been deployed in the area which is working round the clock to bring the situation to normal at the earliest.
Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah visited the affected areas of DHA and took stock of the situation. He ordered mobilization of additional equipment including heavy suction pumps to these areas. He also asked the DHA staff to leave no stone unturned in ensuring speedy and efficient drainage operation in the affected area.
Meanwhile DHA has also established a Rain Emergency Centre at DHA Main Office in Defence Phase-I to co-ordinate the rain emergency operation. Residents can contact the Emergency Control Room on telephone nos. 99266844, 99266845 and 111-589-589 Ext 2073.
