Srinagar, March 17, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Butt, the father of Rasiq Butt, who was martyred by Indian troops in Balhama area of Srinagar along with another youth, has said that his son faced continued harassment and torture at the hands of Indian forces. Ghulam Nabi Butt in an interview said that he knew that his son would not last long and even had a fair bit of idea where his son was headed due to his harassment by the Indian forces day in and day out.
“I feel my son is now free of all that and finally can rest in peace. After suffering a lot at the hands of Indian forces my son has finally taken eternal rest. During all these years he suffered badly as the forces had never allowed him to live a peaceful life. He was forced to pick up gun due to regular arrests and tortures,” he added.
Rasiq Butt of Tral and Shabbir Ahmed Dar of Awantipora were martyred by the troops on Thursday night. “They (forces’ personnel) repeatedly arrested and tortured him and also snatched his mobile phone worth Rs 35,000. I knew the forces will not spare him, they will kill him either today or tomorrow because for them he was a big fish,” said the bereaved father with a sigh.
On the other hand, Muhammad Shabaan Dar, father of martyred Shabbir Ahmed Dar, said that he received the mutilated body of his son. “The body of my son was charred and I received a skeleton wrapped in a cloth,” he said, adding that he didn’t allow his wife to have the last glimpse of their son.
Muhammad Shabaan Dar said that his son was a simple person who always remained engrossed with his labour of digging sand from Jhelum. However, his neighbours said that he was always talking about impunity given to the Indian forces involved in grave human rights violations like Kunanposhpora mass rape. “He believed that this is the only way to fight oppression,” said one of his neighbours.
