Rehmani terms executions of Butt, Guru judicial murders

Srinagar, February 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has paid glowing tributes to Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, on the eve of their martyrdom anniversaries. Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad termed their executions as judicial murders. He said that India had violated all the principles of justice and hanged the two Kashmiri leaders.

He appealed to the international community to put pressure on New Delhi to shift the mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru to their relatives in occupied Kashmir for decent burial.

Muhammad Farooq Rehmani also condemned the crackdown on pro-freedom leaders and activists by Indian police to thwart conducting of various programmes in connection with the martyrdom anniversaries of the two leaders.

Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar jail on February 11, 1984 while Muhammad Afzal Guru was sent to gallows last year on February 9. Both were buried in the premises of the jail.
