Release, shift all Kashmiri detainees to honour human rights: JKCSF

Srinagar, November 22, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Civil Society Forum has demanded immediate release/shifting of Kashmiri detainees who have been languishing in different Indian jails for years now. The JKCSF Chairman, Abdul Qayoom Wani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that thousands of people of IIOJK comprising political, non-political and religious leaders had been languishing in jails for years now and nobody talks about their plea and future.

Back home their families have been in utter pain, agony and distress going from pillar to post for want of justice but of no use as there has been no substantial outcome of their struggle so for, he added. Abdul Qayoom Wani deplored that the detained elderly leaders of the Kashmiri people had no access to basic amenities in jails and their health was deteriorating continuously which was a matter of grim concern collectively for the mankind.

He said some detainees, who are aged and senior citizens, are fighting chronic ailments, while family members of some detainees back home suffer from dreadful diseases like cancer and have nobody to care for. Even in the times of pandemic like COVID-19 these detainees and their families are given no relaxation on humanitarian grounds and they suffered on many fronts.

He demanded that some leaders, who are languishing in the prolonged house detentions and facing multiple problems, should be released at an earliest. The JKCSF Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said that a fair trial should be run in all cases promptly to grant justice to these detainees.

Notwithstanding the detention without trial and having no cases against them all such detainees should be released without any further delay. All elderly detainees should be shifted to Srinagar so that their families can meet them and they can spend time well according to local environment suitable to their health. Wani maintained.
