‘Right to Self-Determination Day’ observed in Pakistan embassy in Abu Dhabi

Islamabad, January 06, 2020 (PPI-OT): “Pakistan will continue its political, diplomatic and moral support to the people of Occupied Kashmir in their struggle for right to self-determination,” said the top Pakistani diplomat in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ambassador Ghulam Dastagir remarked while speaking during an event to observe “Right to Self-Determination Day” organised at the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

He called upon the international community for a peaceful settlement of the disputed territory in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, according to an official statement. While emphasising on the importance of the day when the United Nations made a commitment for holding of a plebiscite under its auspices on January 5, 1949, Dastagir underscored New Delhi’s illegal and unilateral decision of August 5, 2019 and unrestrained oppression, reaching unprecedented levels with the inhuman lockdown continuing for nearly five months.

“Regrettably, this right had not yet been realised because of unabated repression and state terrorism by India in IOK”, he added. Special messages of Pakistan’s president, prime minister and foreign minister on the day were also read out in the ceremony, which was attended by a large number of Kashmiris and Pakistanis. At the end of the function, special prayers were offered for Kashmiri martyrs and an early resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.
