Seminar on Organizational Intelligence held at Punjab University

Lahore: An interesting and informative seminar on “Organizational Intelligence” held in the Al-Raazi Hall of Punjab University Centre for Undergraduate Studies here at New Campus on Monday. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Akhtar, heads of various teaching departments and administrative officials were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran said many PU teachers had been performing administrative duties. There are some definite rules to run an institute. He said some institutions took too much time to respond a letter whereas others responded quickly. Punjab University has been taking all-out measures to overcome this issue and the present administration had been succeeded well in this regard to a great extent. He said some administrators lacked the required skills for administration and even there was no culture of taking notes of speech. “We don’t organize our thoughts and we lack discipline, commitment and loyalty,” he added. Dr Mujahid Kamran said people had been struggling hard to stop others’ cases and leg-pulling.

Giving detailed information on the topic, Aqeela Rahman said this was the major responsibility of high-level administration to run the affairs in a disciplined manner. They had to focus whether mental and physical energies were being utilized fully to achieve the mission of organization. She said top-level people should communicate with each other, give lower people authority to think, make organizational structure systematic, understandable and rules and procedures should be clear.

She said organizations ignore important signals from the environment while good organizations mobilize coherent respond complex approach and have rational approach to risk-management. She said big organizations failed because of obsessive optimization addiction to bureaucracy, hardness in hiring and firing and status quo. She said bad organizations had problems but used to repeated same mistakes. She said there should be strategic priorities and targets should not be kept on priorities.

She also threw light on strategic map and evidence-based decisions and highlighted importance of balance in clarifying strategic objectives, measuring performance and managing performance. She said there should be no gap between goals, actions and outcomes. She said we should engage people for reporting of the issues, which could really help in improve work and decision-making capability.

Director Planning and Development Tariq Majeed Qureshi also addressed the seminar and highlighted importance of the topic.
