Senate Committee on Housing and Works Discusses Land Complications and Development Plans

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on Housing and Works, chaired by Senator Nasir Mahmood, met today at Parliament House to deliberate on a range of issues affecting housing projects and land management in Islamabad.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the committee discussed progress and complications concerning the development of sectors F-12, G-12, G-13, and G-14. The Director General of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) reported that an award had been declared for sectors F-12 and G-12, but there were ongoing complications with landowners in sectors F-14 and F-15, which are delaying further development.

The meeting also covered the results of a recent auction of commercial plots by the FGEHA, which faced challenges due to heavy taxation and lackluster investor interest, prompting calls for a revised strategy to enhance investor engagement and project viability.

Further issues discussed included the illegal occupation of Pak PWD land by the TMA Murree and private parties, with ongoing legal actions highlighted. The Prime Minister has directed for swift resolution to these legal matters to clear the way for rightful use of the lands.

The committee also addressed internal administrative matters, including the placement of officers on deputation and the allocation of spaces for religious purposes in housing sectors, underscoring the need for careful consideration of religious sanctity in public projects.

The session reflected the committee’s proactive approach to resolving longstanding issues within the housing and works sectors, with a focus on enhancing transparency and efficiency in future developments.
