Shahbaz Sharif presides over a high level meeting which reviewed different proposals for further improving rule of law in the province

Lahore, March 17, 2016 (PPI-OT):Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting which reviewed different proposals for further improving rule of law in the province. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that there is a need to evolve a comprehensive roadmap for further improving rule of law. He said that it is necessary to introduce reforms in policing, investigation, prosecution, forensic and other important sectors.

He said that police will have to keep in view the new demands for coming up to the expectations of the masses. He said that implementation of the proposed steps for further improving rule of law will result in ensuring justice to the common man. Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has set up a most modern scientific laboratory in the province and satellite centres of forensic science laboratory will also be established in nine divisions of the province.

He said that this step will help in timely preservation of evidence in important cases. He said stressed the need of moving forward through multi-dimension efforts for further improving rule of law. He said that in addition to better case management, training of investigation and prosecution staff is also necessary. He said that confidence of people in police system will have to be restored through joint efforts.

The Chief Minister said that a strict accountability system has been evolved for the elimination of corruption from the province, however, the process of accountability will have to be further improved. He said that the system will have to be improved through raising the professional standard of police. He said that all out resources will be provided for maintaining supremacy of law.

Head of British Department for International Development (DFID) Ms. Joanna Reid, DFID representative in Punjab Ben French, Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmad, Jehangir Khanzada MPA, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, concerned secretaries and senior authorities of law enforcement agencies were present on the occasion.
