Shawl urges world to help stop rights’ violations in IOK

Islamabad, December 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of International Chamber for Peace and Conciliation (ICPC), Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, has said that the world needs to impress upon the Indian government to stop the massive human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir and create an atmosphere conducive for dialogue to settle the Kashmir dispute.

Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl in a statement issued in Islamabad in connection with the World Human Rights Day said that the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on 10th December, 1948, was a momentous event for the entire mankind.

“We need to rediscover the spirit and conviction embedded in this declaration. While celebrating this event we need to address the human rights situations in conflict areas such as Kashmir and Palestine,” he maintained

Professor Shawl said that people of Kashmir on the occasion expected that the UN would play rightful role to implement its own resolutions on Kashmir. He appealed to all human rights organizations to raise voice with regard to recently discovered mass graves and the draconian laws that were tools of repression in the occupied territory.
