Shehbaz Sharif Approves Task Force for Waste-to-Energy Production

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has approved the formation of a task force dedicated to waste-to-energy production. This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing the country’s energy needs through sustainable practices.

According to Radio Pakistan, the task force is entrusted with developing a national waste-to-energy policy. The focus will be on encouraging private sector involvement and crafting a comprehensive strategy and institutional framework to advance waste-to-energy projects across Pakistan.

Federal Minister for the Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, has been appointed as the convener of the task force. The group will assess the current framework for waste-to-energy production within the country, explore international best practices, and identify any legal, regulatory, financial, and operational challenges that may impede progress in this sector.

The task force’s responsibilities also include suggesting new legislation and regulatory reforms relevant to waste-to-energy. It will propose measures to attract investments, improve coordination, and support the successful implementation of waste-to-energy initiatives nationwide.
