Shutdown in IOK against attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu, India

Srinagar, February 17, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, shutdown is being observed in all district headquarters of the Kashmir including Srinagar as a mark of protest against attacks by Hindu mobs on Kashmiris in Jammu and India. Call for the strike has been given by the several trade bodies including the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Forum and Kashmir Economic Alliance and was supported by High Court Bar Association of the occupied territory.

All shops and other business establishments are closed and public transport is off the roads. The authorities have suspended mobile Internet service in most parts of the territory. Strict restrictions have been imposed in Srinagar parts and in other parts of the valley to prevent any protests.

Meanwhile, complete shutdown was also observed in Banihal area of Jammu region as a mark of protests against attacks by Hindu mob on Kashmiris and local Muslims in Jammu. All shops and other business establishments were closed in the town. Kashmiri students staying as tenants in Dehradun and Ambala at local houses were asked to vacate by the homeowners.
