Sikh protesters demand release of arrested youth

Amritsar, April 01, 2023 (PPI-OT):A protest march was organized from Darbar Sahib to the Deputy Commissioner’s office by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Amritsar, Indian Punjab, in which a large number of Sikhs participated. The participants of the march demanded the release of Sikh youth arrested during the recent police crackdown against pro-Khalistan leader and Waris Punjab De head, Amritpal Singh. Under the leadership of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Harjinder Singh Dhami, office-holders of the organization and other leaders also participated in the protest march.

On the occasion, the speakers said that the sacrifices of Sikhs in India’s independence are more than 50 percent, but after independence, the rights and interests of Sikhs have been neglected in India. They said that under the guise of arresting Amritpal Singh, the police have arrested a large number of innocent Sikh youth and now a new narrative is being created against the Sikhs.

The speakers said the families of the arrested Sikh youth are very worried and are demanding justice from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. It should be noted that the police in Indian Punjab recently arrested hundreds of Sikh youth during a crackdown against the pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh.
