Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to become a Paperless Organisation

Lahore, June 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is going to be completely transformed into a paperless organization within three months. According to a press release issued here today, a process to upgrade the information technology at SMEDA head office has been initiated, which will be completed withing next three months.

The hardware and software to be added up in this regard would enable the entire organization to process documentation within the organization through internet leaving no room for submission of hard copies around.

A software based Document Management System (DMS) is being introduced for this purpose, which will provide all of the required facilities for scanning and forwarding the notes along with annexures for having approvals from the relevant competent authorities. Hence, the DMS will eliminate need of personal appearance of the staff before each other as well as the competent authorities for seeking approvals, which would be economical as well as time efficient.

Similarly, the present management has decided to introduce the facility of video conferencing first time in the organization, which will drastically reduce the heavy cost of TA and DA, which is incurred on movement of regional employees to attend the meetings to be held at head office and vice versa.

Further, under the current initiative creating a paperless environment in the office, the SMEDA management has already introduced biometric system for attendance of the employees. The submission of leave applications and maintenance of the employees’ leave record is also being managed in the soft form.
