South Asia Boys and Girls Table Tennis Championships to be held from August 27 to 29

Islamabad, August 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): The prestigious 2014 South Asia Boys and Girls Table Tennis Championships scheduled at Islamabad from August 27 to 29 under the banner of 68th Independence Celebration Programme will be organized by Pakistan Table Tennis Federation in coordination was Pakistan Sports Board, Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada, Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination announced here this afternoon.

Entries of Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka besides Pakistan have been received for the ten events to be contested in the Championships.

The Minister presided a meeting of Organizing Committee of the Championships held at Islamabad Club today to finalize the arrangements for Championships attended by President PTTF, S M Sibtain, Acting DG PSB Mohammad Salamat, Organizing Secretary Khawaja Hasan Wadood, Deputy Chairman Hasan Iqbal Gardezi, President Punjab Table Tennis Association shahid Akhtar Baloch, PTTF Secretary Kifayatullah, Secretary PTTA Khalid Mahmood, Secretary ITTA Nadeem Mansoor, Deputy DG PSB Mohammad Shahid, Women Coordinator Yasmeen and others.

The Minister said that Prime Minister of Pakistan Mohammad Nawaz Sharif is taking significant steps to promote sports all over Pakistan and all out efforts are being made to encourage talented players. He said that negative activities of youth will be countered by promoting sportsmanship and to defeat terrorism.

He directed to hold the Championships in a befitting manner and all facilities may be extended to participating teams. Briefing the Minister, President PTTF said that about 80 boys and girls will contest ten events in the Championships. A week long Regional Coaching Camp will precede the Championships from August 20 to 26 conducted by a coach from Korea sponsored by Asian Table Tennis Union.

President of Pakistan Mamnoon Husain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be requested to grace one of the ceremonial events of the Championships each.
