Minister Akram Durrani pays visit to Kurri Road and Bhara Kahu projects

Islamabad, August 06, 2014 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani said that construction and development work on Bhara Kahu and Kurri Road housing projects should be resumed and completed expeditiously. He said that the incumbent government has vowed to make all out efforts to provide housing facilities to masses.

The Minister said so while paying visit to 588 housing units Kurri Road project of Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHAF) and above 3200 residential plots project of Bhara Kahu of Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF).

The Federal Minister said that government will leave no stone unturned to provide accommodation facilities to public and more visits will be paid to other capital cities to monitor and scrutinize the progress of different on-going projects soon.

Regarding Kurri Road project, the Minister was briefed that said project was started in March 2012 and it was supposed to complete in 18 months but the work had been stopped due to some issues between contractor and the department.

Upon which the Minister emphasized that restoration of public’s trust is need of the hour and for that we must sit together and find out a viable solution of problem. Moreover, the Minister reiterated that cooperation from both sides is mandatory and hoped that the work on kurri Road project will be resumed in the current month (August) without any further delay.

Later on, the Minister paid a visit to Bhara Kahu housing project and Director General FGEHF apprised the Minister about the said project for which around 3100 kanal land has been acquired and transferred on the department’s name as well. It was also briefed that the project was started in 2009 but stopped due to some litigation regarding payment issues to the contractor.

The Minister showed his deep concern over the 5 year delay on the completion of the project and said that no further delay is acceptable. The Minister also stated that all the contractor’s reservations would also be addressed in a reasonable way.

The contractors of both projects also assured their assistance and support to accomplish the respective unfinished housing projects. The Minister was accompanied by the Secretary Housing and Works, Joint Secretary Housing and Works, Deputy Secretary (Admin) and other officials of the ministry during visits.
