Standing Committee Urges COMSATS University to Appoint Permanent Rector

Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Science and Technology has called for the immediate appointment of a permanent Rector at COMSATS University to improve decision-making and future planning. This urgency was highlighted during the Committee’s seventh meeting held at the Parliament House in Islamabad.

According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting, chaired by Mr. Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, MNA, focused on a briefing regarding COMSATS University Islamabad and its subsidiaries. Discussions included current and future campus setups and expansion plans to establish more institutions across the country.

The Committee underscored the importance of filling the Rector position, as well as other vacant leadership roles within institutions under the Ministry of Science and Technology, with qualified candidates. The Minister for Science and Technology noted that final approvals for these appointments await the Prime Minister’s consent.

The Committee also addressed concerns related to the National Testing Service (NTS), directing the Ministry to investigate any corruption allegations. A comprehensive report on actions taken against NTS is to be submitted to maintain transparency and accountability.

Additionally, the Ministry was instructed to ensure timely release of funds for projects with approved PC-1 to prevent delays. Senior officials from the Ministry, COMSATS University, and PSQCA were in attendance at the meeting.
