Statement by Tehmina Janjua Foreign Secretary of Pakistan at the 7th Extraordinary OIC Summit on the Question of Palestine

Islamabad, May 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): Mr. Chairman,

Secretary General,

Excellencies,

On behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan we thank H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Government of Turkey for holding this Extraordinary Summit to get the Ummah leaders on the OIC platform to strategize and also to express solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters who are facing extreme brutalities at the hands of occupying forces.

I would also like to thank H.E. Mehmet Cavusoglu for chairing this session of the CFM.

Excellences

Today we are gathered here in great anguish. I would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to President Mehmood Abbas and the Palestinian people on the martyrdom of many innocent Palestinian.

Our sympathies and wishes for speedy recovery to those injured during the peaceful protests.

We see similar patterns of brutalities and operation being played out by the occupation forces against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Peaceful demonstration is a basic human right. The Palestinian people were only protesting against the opening of the U.S Embassy in Al Quds Al Sharif – one of the most sacred and holy places for Muslims.

We had gathered in Istanbul on 13 December last year to protest against the decision of U.S Administration to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

Istanbul Declaration adopted then, called for a comprehensive solution for the rights of the Palestinians.

This action was in contravention of international law especially UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions on the status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

We need to be united. At this unprecedented juncture our collective voice will be heard. In this case, as in other Muslim causes, the Ummah needs to come together.

We witness the flouting of UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir in a similar manner by the occupying forces. Both the situation in Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir are challenging the basic fabric of international civilized behaviour of states.

In both cases blood has been spilled. In both cases the international community must come together to respond to the requirements of international legitimacy.

We must agitate on all international fora for the just cause of people, end occupation and bring to justice of those responsible.
