Students festival on Energy organized by Pakistan Science Foundation concludes

Islamabad, December 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): The 2-day Students Fete (festival) on Energy organized by Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) at International Islamic University (IIUI) concluded here on November 20, 2013.

Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of different competitions in the closing ceremony of the festival. Mr. Najib Khawar Awan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) was the Chief Guest on this occasion. PSF Chairman Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, IIUI’s Academic Affairs Vice President Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed and PSF Member Finance Mr. Haider Zaman Khattak were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Awan’ our country is facing the worst ever energy crisis and it is need of the hour that we should make judicious use of all available resources to counter the problem.

Mr. Awan also said it is encouraging that PSF, Private Schools Network, Embassy of France, UNESCO and other stakeholders have taken this initiative to create awareness about science, especially on energy, among youth of the country. He said different activities like stalls, speech, essay and quiz, paper planes and water bottle rocket competitions, during the fete covered almost every aspect of the theme.

PSF Chairman Dr. Ibupoto said the young scientists’ creations during the fete were unbelievable. He said students’ interest in the topic demonstrates that they have potential to find ways and means in order to overcome the energy problem.

The Chairman said that MoST is fully supporting Pakistan Science Foundation to promote science at grassroots level and the Foundation is grateful for its guidance and support.

Dr. Mumtaz said students knowledge on the topic impressed him very much. He was of the view that energy crisis is the top most problem of the country and exploration of alternative energy resources, long planning and political will is required to overpower it. He remarked that scientific talent available in the universities and R and D organizations may be utilized properly.

Later, Mr. Najib Khawar Awan and Dr. Ibupoto distributed cash prizes and certificates among winners of different competitions.

It is pertinent to mention that PSF is working under the MoST to promote and create science awareness at grassroot levels by organizing different activities.

PSF with the support of French Embassy, Islamabad and in collaboration with Private School Network (PSN) organized the two days event titled “Students fête on Energy” at International Islamic University, Faisal Mosque Campus, Islamabad on December 19-20, 2013. Students from over 20 schools of Islamabad and surrounding areas participated in the fete.

The main activites included Students Project Competition, Essay Competition, Poster Competition, Speech Competition, Quiz competition, Water Bottle Rocket Competition and Paper Plane Competition.
