APHC-AJK Appeals to UN Over Misleading Indian Electoral Practices in Kashmir

Islamabad, The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter has formally reached out to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, urging him to address India’s deceptive portrayal of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir through staged elections.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the letter from APHC-AJK Convener Mehmood Ahmed Saghar to the UN chief detailed accusations against the Narendra Modi-led government for using elections to mask severe human rights abuses and suppression of political dissent within the disputed territory. The letter argued that the elections are a facade, lacking transparency and fairness, often held under heavy military presence to intimidate voters and skew results in favor of pro-India candidates.

The APHC-AJK has called for an UN-supervised plebiscite to determine the will of the Kashmiri people, in addition to immediate international action to halt human rights violations, release political prisoners, and initiate a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict. The communication underscores a persistent international call for recognition of the complex and deteriorating situation in Kashmir, contrasting sharply with Indian claims of normalcy.
