Trade Facilitation needs early implementation of National Single Window: President FPCCI

Karachi, October 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): Engr. Daroo Khan Achakzai, President, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) stressed the need of early implementation of National Single Window (NSW) to facilitate trade and support to improve country’s ranking in ease of doing business index. He was speaking in the awareness session on NSW at Federation House jointly organized by FPCCI and PCAA. The session was attended by large number of stakeholders which was graced by Mr. S.M. Muneer former Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and Former President FPCCI.

President FPCCI also stated that the NSW will help smooth dealing with all government agencies that are involved with the movement of trade, goods, including tax, immigration, quarantine, agriculture, fisheries, foreign affairs and central bank. He showed concerned over poor performance in World Bank Ease of Doing Business Index and told that Pakistan ranks 142 out of 190 countries in the ‘Trading across Borders’ indicator, He pointed that in order to improve governance of cross-border trade regimes with other economies most of the countries are increasingly relying on trade-related single window system.

Mr. S. M. Muneer Former President FPCCI and Former Chief Executive TDAP ensured his full support and cooperation in creating awareness and implementation about NSW as in world most of the developed and developing countries have introduced NSW to reduce cost of doing business and expedite the business process.

While participating in the awareness session Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig Sr. Vice President FPCCI stressed on the need of up-gradation of the Customs IT system, development of infrastructure and creates linkages of all concerned department with NSW. He further stated that All regulatory and legislative and risk management documents with NSW should be aligned. He underlined the need of development of mechanism for effective monitoring, resources allocations and timeline of outputs and fool proof protection and security measures such as cyber hacking and attack.

A consensus among the experts in the session was developed that the NSW is the need of the time to support trade facilitation through establishing linkages, simplifying cross-border formalities for trade and other economic operators. The NSW will help to improve cross-border trading by streamlining and standardizing procedures, reducing processing time, cost efficiency and will increase transparency.
