Traffic Police Punjab introduces state-of-the-art system to facilitate the citizens

Lahore, September 08, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Traffic Police Punjab has set up a state-of-the-art License Centre at the Arfa Karim Software Technology Park to facilitate senior citizens, retired civil and military officers, women, and their families under one roof.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman expressed these views while addressing the inauguration ceremony held at the Arfa Karim Technology Park in Model Town today. CTO Lahore Dr Usman Anwar, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Umar Saif also spoke on this occasion while a good number of police officers, traffic wardens, and citizens also attended the ceremony.

The provincial police chief said that the police are striving hard to provide best facilities to the masses and the new License Centre would help people get their driving licences under one roof instead of going through different procedures.

While giving a detailed briefing to the IGP on this occasion, CTO Dr Usman Anwar said that the citizens would apply for learner licenses at this Centre and their driving tests would be carried out after 42 days at the same Centre.

The CTO further said that the driving licenses of the successful candidates would be delivered at their doorstep through courier service so that they would not have to visit the License Centre again and again. Apart from learners, the international driving licenses would be issued from this Centre and the outdated licenses would also be renewed at this centre, the CTO concluded.

The IGP was also informed that the traffic police in collaboration with the Punjab IT Board had introduced the software that would help citizens know about the flow of traffic at City Roads by searching through Google. It would also help motorists use alternative routes in case of serious traffic mess on the road.

Talking to reporters after the ceremony, IGP Punjab Muhammad Habib-ur-Rehman said that the police have been directed to remain on high-alert round-the-clock to thwart any possible terror attempt. The IGP also said that the armed police patrolling has also been intensified around the police pickets set up on the border areas of the province to keep a vigilant eye on the movement of the miscreants.
