United States’ Consulate General holds National Day Celebration

Karachi, February 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): U.S. Ambassador Richard Olson and Consul General Michael Dodman hosted hundreds of local dignitaries and businesspeople at a National Day celebration at the Consul General’s residence in Karachi on Monday. During the event’s formal program, Ambassador Olson and Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan spoke to the assembled guests about the past, present, and future of U.S.-Pakistan relations.

“Tonight’s event is an opportunity to celebrate not only U.S. independence, but also the relationship between our two great countries, which has endured for over 60 years,”said Ambassador Olson. “As we look to the future, the United States is committed to working with Pakistan to unlock the enormous potential of the Pakistani people to succeed in a country, a region, and a world in transition.”

U.S. diplomatic missions around the world hold annual celebrations to commemorate U.S. independence. These events are usually held near U.S. Independence Day which falls on July 4. The U.S. Mission in Pakistan holds its National Day celebration in February near the U.S. Presidents’ Day holiday, which this year falls on February 17.
