Vast scope for economic relations between Pak, Japan- Farrukh Amil

Islamabad, November 01, 2012 (PPI-OT): H.E.Mr.Farrukh Amil, Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Japan visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to discuss bilateral relation between Pakistan and Japan before his departure to Japan.

The Ambassador said that Private sector of both countries should come forward and play their vital role for enhancing trade and economic relations between two countries as level of overall trade between the two countries is much less than the desired potential.

He said that Pakistan being the agrarian country, needs to utilize its full potential in the agriculture sector by adopting modern farming techniques which would increase per yield production of agro-products.

H.E.Mr.Farrukh Amil said that Pakistan has great potential for the exports of fruits and vegetables in the international market and stressed that relevant departments should regularly organize programs inviting the representatives from wholesale fruit and vegetable market to give them training on packaging and international marketing.

In his welcome address, Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI congratulated the Ambassador designate on his appointment and said that Pakistan-Japan trade relations could be enhanced and strengthened through joint ventures, technology transfer, and investment cooperation.

ICCI President also impressed upon the need that Pakistani embassies in all around the world should adopt friendly-visa polices which would ultimately attract more foreign investors and businessmen to visit Pakistan and invest in the areas of their interest.

Mr. Bakhtawari was of the view that there is dire need to enhance direct linkages between the both countries through direct flights which would stimulate mutual relations. He said that PIA has been facing huge losses for last many years as it had lost several destinations due to tight-visa policies.

He said that Pakistan is a resource rich country, but lacks technology and expertise; whereas Japan is a resource scarce country, but it is technologically advanced, thus, Pakistan and Japan could benefit a lot with mutual cooperation in areas like energy, mining, agriculture, trade and investment.
