WAPDA Chairman emphasizes upon project management to complete Tarbela 4th project as per timelines

Lahore, September 02, 2016 (PPI-OT): Subsequent to his 3-day visit to Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project couple of days ago, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Chairman, Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain (R) today visited the under-construction 1410 MW-Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project to review progress on the project.

During the visit, the Chairman witnessed in detail the construction works on various sites of the project, which include the critical area of intake structure located in Tarbela reservoir, and the powerhouse. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized upon the project management to complete Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project in accordance with the timelines set for the purpose.

It is worth mentioning that Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project is being constructed on tunnel No. 4 of Tarbela Dam. The project will increase generation capacity of Tarbela Hydel Power Station from 3478 MW to 4888 MW, after installation of three units with installed capacity of 470 MW each. The World Bank is providing US$ 840 million for construction of the project. On completion, Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project will add about 3.84 billion units of low-cost electricity to the National Grid per annum. The project will pay back its cost in just three years.
