Why is the double standard with Sindh? says Murtaza Wahab

Karachi, January 29, 2020 (PPI-OT): Spokesperson of Sindh Government and Advisor to Chief Minister on Law, Environment and Coastal Development Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that the current IG police Kalam Imam has become politicized and PTI and GDA are doing politics for him to fulfil their duties.

said that Instead, they are busy in the rhetoric, neither will the Governor Sindh consult for the appointment of new IG, nor are they obliged to think that the meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister Sindh was agreed in the name of the new IG. He was holding a press conference in Sindh Assembly Committee Room on Wednesday. Barrister Murtaza Wahab added. Yes, if there are crimes in the province, then it is blamed on the provincial government. He also said that after meeting with the Prime Minister and taking confidence, the matter of removal of IG police had been brought to the provincial cabinet and briefed the media on meetings and telephonic communications between the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.

He said that Sindh had sent three names for the post of IG, five names were sought after which five names were sent but no decision was taken on it. It was said Prime Minister in Davies and would be decided to return now would also be meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan. One of the five names was agreed upon. On the second day the notification was issued, but the media revealed that the PTI’s allies were in Sindh.

I have objected to the names of the government, strangely the statement from the IG police said that I was not going anywhere. We understand and hope that the dialogue between the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister would be decided accordingly. Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that according to the Police Act, consultation on IG police should be done between the federal and the province and not from Governor Sindh. The cabinet is a constitutional forum for how they can make such decisions.

He added that Deployment of new IG should be in accordance with constitution and law. Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the Sindh government was not demanding any constitutional or illegal right, no one has ever talked about how many IGs have changed in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Punjab government on November 26 sent three names to the federation for IG police and the same day, the federation issued a notification of Shoaib Dastagir out of their three names.

I have to say with regret that consultation takes place within a few hours in one province, while in other province (Sindh), we have spent several days doing the same thing. So we should be treated like the people of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and not take away the rights of the people. He said that the largest forum in the government is the provincial cabinet. This forum expressed no confidence in IG Police Kalam Imam. It was the constitutional right of the cabinet, all the reasons why we are not satisfied with his performance.

The Sindh government has distrusted the Kalam Imam but he was still imposing on the people of the province. Suppose there are two Pakistan administratively, there should be only one law for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. We will continue to demand our constitutional right. Responding to a question, he said that if the IGs were changed in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, did their relations deteriorate there? It is not a constitutional right of the government. As for them the PTI and the GDA are sounding like they are in politics.
