Srinagar, January 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, family members of a teenage boy, Zahid Farooq, who was killed by the troops of Indian Border Security Force in 2010, have said that the BSF has summoned them and other witnesses in the case in its court in Srinagar on different dates for recording their statements. The family members of Zahid Farooq described the latest BSF order as a tactic to harass them.
“The BSF has asked us to appear separately before their court on 15 separate dates. The witnesses include our neighbours and relatives and each one of us has been summoned on separate dates,” the family members said. Pertinently, the case is listed for final hearing in the Indian Supreme Court on Tuesday.
It is to mention here that Zahid Farooq was killed after he was hit by a bullet fired by the BSF troops on February 5, 2010. Zahid Farooq, along with his friends, was returning home from a cricket ground. The forensic tests had confirmed that the bullet, which led to the killing of Zahid was fired from the gun of a BSF man, Lakhvinder Kumar, who was later arrested.
Zahid’s killing had evoked widespread protests across the Valley. It was followed by killing of another teenage boy, Wamiq Farooq, of Rainawari in the firing of Indian police. The killings had led to massive anti-India demonstrations across the occupied territory and subsequent use of brute force by Indian police and troops on the protesters had resulted in the killing of over 120 Kashmiris including women and children.
