Zamruda Habib’s book Prisoner No 100 launched

Islamabad, January 17, 2016 (PPI-OT): Woman Kashmiri Hurriyet leader Zamruda Habib’s book Prisoner No 100 has been launched under the auspices of Kashmir Tehreek Khawateen Azad Kashmir and Pak Azerbaijan forum in Islamabad. Zamruda Habib in her telephonic address from Srinagar said the book raises questions about the justice system in India. She thanked all the participants who expressed their opinions at the launching ceremony of the book. Zamruda Habib, who also heads Kashmir Tehreek Khawateen, remained detained in New Delhi’s Tihar jail for more than five years.

The panellists commented on various aspects of the book and described it as an honest reflection of prevailing situation in occupied Kashmir. Former Ambassador Akram Zaki on the occasion highlighted the need to address the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir in order to resolve the traumas and sufferings of the Kashmiri people. Mrs Shamim Shawl, Secretary General, said the book reflects the experiences and observations of a prisoner who spent five years in the most notorious Indian jail known as Tihar jail. The has tried to express her opinion about the justice system that exists in the world’s so-called largest democracy.

The book was launched under the auspices of Kashmir Tehreek Khawateen Azad Kashmir and Pak-Azerbaijan forum in Islamabad. Senior Hurriyet leader Mohammed Farooq Rehmani selected a few excerpts from the book to describe the unethical behaviour of India towards the women of Kashmir who are struggling for their birth right, the right of self determination. Dr Mohammad Khan of National Defence University highlighted the implication of the people in fake cases under draconian laws.

Dr Owais Wasih of Rifa University, Islamabad, described Prisoner No 100 as an honest narrative of the present day Kashmir under Indian occupation. Rukhsana Khan area search fellow of Quaid-e-Azam University discussed the book in the context of Kashmir women’s contribution to the freedom struggle.

Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl said that Zamruda Habib symbolized the determination of the Kashmiri people for realizing their freedom. Dr Waleed Rasool eulogized the services of Zamruda Habib for Kashmir’s freedom. Others who spoke on the occasion included Fara Azam, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Saleem Wani, Ishtiaq Hameed and Engineer Mehmood Imran Tahir.
