Zulfikar Thaver urges all stakeholders to focus on micro, small and primary sector

Karachi, May 14, 2015 (PPI-OT): Thaver said the medium sector is doing fairly well but the micro enterprises and the small entrepreneurs need access to finance. He said we are of the opinion that the micro finance banks financing limit needs to be enhanced from Rs 500000 to Rs 1 million to enable the micro finance banks to cater to the needs of the small sector also.

The small sector needs to be accommodated as the commercial banks are not very comfortable in financing the small entrepreneurs. The micro finance banks can look after the requirements of the sector as they are well versed with financing the micro and the small.

He said the micro enterprises and the small deserve the best attention of the government as it is the majority sector and needs to be up lifted. Many home based and cottage industries if given the facilities of hire purchase and repayment of loans in instalments could grow into organized units.

He said I have worked for the uplift of the SMEs and created awareness, identified the impediments and suggested remedies and today the SME promotion and development is given priority but now it will be my endeavour to work for the betterment of the hawkers, the small shopkeepers, the grocers, the workshops, the primary sector and the women who make and prepare items at home with the co-operation of all the stakeholders. He invited all stakeholders to join hands in the promotion and development of the micro, primary and small sectors for their betterment.
