Srinagar: Indian troops continued their operations throughout 2024 in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 101 Kashmiris, including three young boys.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Research Section, 50 of these individuals were killed in what were described as fake encounters or died in custody. The report also notes the deaths of six non-Muslims, including one killed by the Border Security Force and five in police custody, while a woman lost her life due to mortar fire by the Indian army in Jammu, Reasi, and Samba districts.
The report highlighted that these incidents left eight women widowed and 24 children orphaned. It also documented two cases of sexual assault by Indian troops and the destruction of 12 residential properties. Additionally, 67 people were injured in protests during the year. A total of 3,492 people, including Hurriyat leaders, human rights activists, students, lawyers, and women, were arrested in various operations. Notable detainees include Hurriyet leader Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Dr. Hameed Fayaz, and former Kashmir Bar president Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom. Many were detained under laws such as the Public Safety Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
