41,35,096 cotton bales sourced to ginners by October 1: Report

Multan, October 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) fortnightly report shows that around 41,35,096 cotton bales were sourced to the country’s ginners by October 1st ,2014. Which shows an increase of 12.24 percent than last year when ginneries received 36, 84,289 bales.

PCGA Chairman Hafeez Anwar briefed journalists on Friday about seed-cotton (phutti) arrivals, sales and unsold stock of cotton.He said that 33, 21,602 cotton bales were sold to the textile units and exporters bought 1,46,928 bales.

Thus, overall 34,71,130 bales were traded so far. He said that PCGA was following the production target of Pakistan Central Cotton Committee .Hafeez Anwar said that total 763 (513 in Punjab+ 250 in Sindh) out of 1200 ginning factories are operational in two provinces.

The chairman of PCGA said that Punjab contributed 19,79,291 bales which 32.53 percent more than last year when Punjab contributed 14,93,505 bales , Sindh contributed 21,55,805 bales which 1.60 percent less than last year when it contributed 21,90,784 bales and Balochistan 31,600 bales.

After the total trading of 34, 71,130 bales, there are 6,63,966 bales available with ginners as unsold stock. He said that cotton trading remained firm amid strong physical price and higher cotton prices. Since the Textile mills have increased the buying of cotton to meet the demand of European Market after attaining the status of GSP-Plus, the rates are stable.

District wise cotton arrival in Punjab: Multan 56,068 ,bales 29.81 percent more than last year, Lodhran 44,634 bales 26.71 % increase, Khanewal 3,60,674 showing an increase of 43.69 %, Muzaffargarh 23,200 bales 12.26 % decrease, Dera Ghazi Khan 23,500 bales showed a decrease of 24.86 %, Rajanpur 37,805 bales showing an increase of 132.90 % .Layyah 26,600 bales 71.70 % more than last year,Vehari 3,38,609 bales showing an increase of 34.21 %.

Sahiwal 2,67,428 bales increased by 34.69 % ,Pakpattan 1,02,102 showing 40.54 % more than preceding year ,Okara 26,290 showing an increase of 27.62 %, Kasur 11,125 bales 8.01 % more than last year, Toba Tek Singh,1.20,657 bales (an increase of 60.48% ) ,Faisalabad 43,300 (increase 45.55 %),Jhang 27,750 (45.76 % short), Mianwali 18,150 bales (163.62 % increase), Bhakkar 26,980 showing a decrease of 15.16%.

Sargodha 3,150 bales (50 % short) ,Rahimyar Khan , 49,118 bales an increase of 15.27 % , Bahawalpur 1,52,800 bales (an increase of 69.50) and Bahawalnagar 2,19,350 bales showing an increase of 17.69 %. District wise cotton arrival in Sindh, Hyderabad 187,293 bales showing a decrease of 12.76 %, Mirpurkhas 3, 05,109, showing an increase of 11.36%.

Sangar 11,17,695 Nawabshah 1,23,888 Naushero Feroze 59,402 , Khairpur 62,073 Ghotki figures not available ,Sukkur, 1,00,109 , Jamshoro 1,19,900 bales, Badin 48,736 and Baluchistan 31,600 bales. Ginneries received 13, 84,533 bales during the fortnight of September 16 to October I.

Unsold stock is 6,63,966 which is more than last year when it reached to 5,87,883 bales. Ginners were expecting better prices of their lint but prices have fallen down beyond their expectations. PCGA blamed the policy makers who had allowed to import cotton and yarn from India.
