VIS Maintains Ratings for Orient Electronics with a Negative Outlook

Karachi, VIS Credit Rating Company Limited has affirmed the entity ratings of Orient Electronics (Pvt.) Limited (OEL) at ‘A-/A-2’, indicating good credit quality and timely payment certainty, while noting a negative outlook for the future. The ratings reflect the company’s adequate protection factors and good access to capital markets despite some exposure to economic shifts and liquidity risks.

According to VIS Credit Rating Company Limited, the negative outlook on OEL’s ratings is driven by a lower top line that has affected the company’s profitability in recent years, although margins have improved. The removal of the Rating Watch suggests a stabilization of OEL’s rating at the current level, but concerns remain regarding potential liquidity risks and economic volatility, particularly due to the cyclic nature of the household appliance market and exchange rate fluctuations.

Orient Electronics, which was incorporated on August 23, 2005, operates in the manufacturing, assembling, and sales of various home appliances including air conditioners, refrigerators, and LED TVs, among others. Its parent company, Orient Color Labs (Private) Limited, holds a significant share of its capital. The company’s market position is supported by a medium level of competition among major industry players, providing some stability to its ratings.

The report highlighted that while the company’s liquidity profile is currently adequate, there is a potential risk of liquidity strain due to elongated payable cycles. The future ratings will be sensitive to OEL’s ability to improve profitability and recover its coverage profile to levels more aligned with its current ratings. Ongoing support from the parent company will also be crucial in maintaining the stability of the ratings.
