Karachi, Engro Fertilizers has been awarded the prestigious International Fertilizers Association (IFA) Green Leaf Award 2024 for its outstanding health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices in the Nitrogen Category. This recognition places the company at the forefront of global fertilizer manufacturing in terms of safety and sustainability standards.
According to Engro Corporation Limited, the IFA Green Leaf Award, presented biennially, is considered the gold standard among fertilizer manufacturers worldwide. This year, the competition included a record 47 applications from 27 member companies. Engro Fertilizers distinguished itself by demonstrating superior performance in critical areas such as lost-time injury rates, sickness rates, and annual emissions over the past five years, securing the top spot after being the first runner-up in the 2020 awards.
Ali Rathore, CEO of Engro Fertilizers, highlighted the company’s commitment to health, safety, and environmental management as foundational to its operations. He emphasized the collective dedication to HSE principles, which has garnered trust across the value chain and propelled the company to lead in innovation and sustainable practices. Rathore also noted the significant role these efforts play in supporting Pakistan’s food security.
The award-winning performance is attributed in part to the company’s ECO-GREEN project, which improved plant energy efficiency through comprehensive equipment inspections and enhancements, including the installation of low NOx burners. In 2023, Engro Fertilizers achieved a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.03, with no workday loss injuries reported, underscoring its leadership in environmental stewardship and safety.
