57th anniversary commemoration of the Asia – Africa Conference

Islamabad: Pakistan stall with its henna tattoo and traditional glass bangle attractions remained in focus of visitors at the cultural festival being held here from 21-22 April to commemorate the 57th anniversary of the Asia-Africa conference. The event is being organized by the Asian-African conference Museum, Bandung with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, says a press release received from Jakarta here today.

Pakistan mission, Jakarta set up stall at the two day festival, presenting a mix of cuisine, clothing and adornment. While a large number of women visitors availed the free henna tattoo offered at the stall, others had a fancy for the tasty chicken biryani.

Embroidered ladies apparel, trendy informal party wear and silk head scarfs were greatly liked by all visitors to the stall. Customers often desired to buy the dresses with matching bangles and a hand imprint of henna. Henna sachets were sold in large number.

Apart from Pakistan, Saudi and Thailand booths attracted visitors. Indonesian stalls, mostly set up by prominent companies hailing from the capital city Jakarta, offered food items. They also displayed very exquisite decoration pieces, items in which Indonesia really excells, Expats and diplomats avidly bought these expensive masterpieces.

Along with the cultural festival, other activities marking the 57th anniversary including seminars and conferences have also been scheduled from 18-24 April.

The week long commemorative activities shall conclude Sunday evening with a grand closing ceremony being held at the famous Gedung Merdeka Centre, Bandung.

Meanwhile Ambassador of Pakistan to Indonesia, Sanaullah told media that the Embassy participated in almost all the cultural events organized by the Indonesian side, particularly the Foreign Ministry with a view to projecting a positive image of Pakistan in Indonesia. The Embassy also regularly organized its own cultural events which received due attention from Indonesian friends, he added.
