Pakistan and UNDP Strengthen Collaboration to Address Development Challenges

Islamabad, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, welcomed H.E. Ms. Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator, and Director of Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with the Country Representative of UNDP in Pakistan, to discuss collaboration on key developmental challenges. The meeting focused on promoting sustainable development and addressing Pakistan’s growth potential.

According to Press Information Department, Minister Aurangzeb expressed appreciation for UNDP’s support, especially during critical times like the 2022 floods, acknowledging its efforts in mobilizing national and international expertise for inclusive development financing. The Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to engaging with UNDP to reduce poverty, increase prosperity, and promote sustainable development.

The Minister also highlighted the Government’s focus on policy reforms to drive economic growth and mentioned Pakistan’s ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an Extended Fund Facility (EFF) to support the economic reform agenda.

H.E. Ms. Kanni Wignaraja praised Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between Pakistan and UNDP. She stressed the need for ongoing partnership to address challenges and seize opportunities for sustainable development in the region.

During the meeting, Ms. Wignaraja presented a copy of the recently launched UNDP report titled “Doing Digital for Development,” which focuses on the role of digital technologies in advancing development initiatives in Pakistan.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued collaboration to address Pakistan’s development challenges and achieve sustainable development goals.
