Aasifa’s rape and murder create fear in Kathua

Srinagar, February 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the rape and murder of Aasifa at Heeranagar in Kathua has created an atmosphere of fear in the area. Aasifa’s family members said that children of Gujjar community had stopped grazing their cattle in forests while only a few go to the schools after the incident that occurred last month. They said that the children, too, were apprehensive that they might also be attacked following the uneasy calm prevailing in the area.

Ali Jan, uncle of Aasifa, said the children of their community no more accompany their families to cattle grazing in the forests. “Even elderly people have kept themselves confined to their homes. Our children willfully want to remain indoors fearing they will be murdered like Aasifa,” he said. “My mother was abused and threatened by some boys for being my mother as I actively raised voice against the murder and rape of Aasifa,” he said. Ali Jan said that they have been living a life of fear. As per the family, Aasifa was abducted on January 12 from near her home at Rasana in Heeranagar area of Hindu-dominated Kathua district. She was sexually abused before her killing and her body was recovered in forest area around 3 km away from her home.
