Karachi, May 15, 2014 (PPI-OT): Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui chaired a meeting on the planning of budget for next fiscal year which was attended by all departmental and sectional heads of KMC.
Administrator Karachi on this occasion directed officers to include such projects in the next budget of KMC which could provide immediate convenience and facilities to the citizens. He said further improvement was needed in the transport and communication, health, education and food quality control sector.
He also directed to allocate necessary sums in the budget of next financial year for the establishment of mobile laboratory for on the spot checking quality of food items. Such an arrangement would help checking food adulteration and taking immediate measures against this practice.
Administrator Karachi also instructed officers to plan for establishment of a model bachat bazaar and compilation of computerized data of the visitors in Civic Centre. He said all computer and information technology related works must be shifted to the I.T Department.
During the meeting it was informed that the food quality control was a newly established department of KMC and it was planned to bring improvement in its working during the next financial year. About 5 Lacs food items producers were planned to be registered under this department whereas presently the result of the food testing was obtained in 72 hours and with the availability of mobile food laboratory this process would give on the spot result.
Administrator Karachi said E and IP Department to establish a model bachat bazaar in the city. He said more pedestrian bridges were needed in the city and already 110 locations were pinpointed by the concerned department, however this project would be carried out on a gradual basis.
He also instructed to coordinate with the private sector in this connection as this project could be implemented under public private partnership basis. Administrator Karachi said 15 sports and recreational schemes were being included in the next budget which would bring considerable improvement in this sector and the citizens would get direct benefit from this.
