JKPL Asserts Elections Cannot Replace Plebiscite in Kashmir

Srinagar, The Jammu Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) has articulated strong opposition to the equivalence of Indian-administered elections with the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that these elections do not address the core issue of Kashmiri autonomy.

According to Kashmir Media Service, JKPL General Secretary Dr. Musaib criticized the upcoming Indian parliamentary elections in the region, stating that such political exercises are insufficient as a substitute for the plebiscite sought by Kashmiri people. “Kashmir is an unresolved political issue that cannot be resolved by force but only through meaningful and result-oriented talks between the three principal parties, the Kashmiris, India, and Pakistan,” Dr. Musaib said during a statement in Srinagar.

He highlighted ongoing atrocities committed against Kashmiri people by Indian forces and reiterated the commitment of Kashmiris to continue their struggle for self-determination. Dr. Musaib also voiced concern over the inflexible stance of the Indian government on the Kashmir dispute, asserting that aggressive policies could not alter the realities on the ground in the occupied territory.
