Former Sarpanch Assassinated, Tourists Injured in Separate Incidents in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Tensions escalated in Jammu and Kashmir as a former sarpanch was assassinated in Shopian, and two tourists from Jaipur were injured in a separate shooting incident in the Islamabad district. These violent incidents underscore the ongoing security challenges in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the former sarpanch, Aijaz Sheikh, was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen at close range in the Hurpora area of Shopian district. Following the assassination, Indian forces initiated a cordon and search operation in an attempt to locate the assailants. In a separate incident in Ganderbal district, a shopkeeper named Fayaz Ahmad Dar, 32, was stabbed to death at his shop in the Perpora, Kachan area.

Additionally, the violence extended to the tourist sector as two visitors from Jaipur, identified only as Tabrez and a woman named Farha, were injured after being shot in the Yannar area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad district. The injured tourists were promptly attended to, though details about their condition were not immediately available.

These incidents have heightened concerns about safety and security in the region, impacting both local residents and visitors.
